Enable/Disable Comments

To change the comment settings for a post or page you already published, first locate the post/page you want to edit and click on its title.

  • Next, locate the Discussion module on the edit screen, and either check or uncheck the options it offers.
  • To prevent any kind of discussion, uncheck the boxes.
  • To disable the ability to use the comment form, but allow comments as Pingbacks or Trackbacks from other blogs, uncheck the box that says Allow comments, and leave the other box checked.
  • To allow visitors to compose comments on the page but prevent responses from coming in as Pingbacks or Trackbacks from other blog, uncheck the box that says Allow Trackbacks and Pingbacks, and leave the other box checked.

Make sure to save the post after you change any comment setting.

Missing Discussion Module

The edit screen on your blog is highly customizable. You can move modules around, minimize them, or hide them completely, so this module might not always be in the same place on every blog.

By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion module hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options on the top right, and checking the box that says Discussion.

Bulk Editing Comments

There is not a way to turn comments on or off for all published posts and pages at once. However, you can use the bulk edit feature to change many posts or pages at a time.

  1. Go to the Posts -> All Posts screen in your blog dashboard.
  2. Select the posts you would like to modify or check the box next to “Title” column at the top to select all posts on that page.
  3. Select Edit from the Bulk Actions drop down menu.
  4. Click the Apply button.
  5. Change the options for Comments and Pings to Allow or Do not allow.
  6. Click the Update button.
  7. Repeat with your other Pages.

It’s possible to turn comments off automatically after a certain number of days. To do that, go to the Settings -> Discussion page and look for Other comment settings on the left. Check the box next to the following option, fill in the number of days, and save.

Gecko Designs was a pleasure to work with while building out a brand new website. They understood what we were after and had creative and useful ideas to help us reach our goals for the website and for our organization. Communication was friendly and reliable throughout the process and they were available to troubleshoot any issues that arose before we went live, and after. Highly recommend!

Gabriel at Gecko Designs has proven over and over again that he and his team offer an incredible product to their clients (me!). I've been thrilled by his communication, the products they offer, and their responsiveness to my requests. Anyone looking for a website, logo, etc.. would be making a no-brainer decision to do business with Gecko Designs.

From intro meeting to final website, this was a great experience. Gecko created exactly what I was looking for, and was very timely and affordable. Great collaboration, lots of changes, and they made me feel comfortable every step of the way. I could not recommend more.

Our non-profit organization can't find enough adjectives to describe the top-notch, professional, and amazing work Gabe and his team provides. They have been amazing supporters of our organization from answering simple quick questions, to volunteering at our events, to helping us with graphic designs and website updates for our biggest event, to helping us with the mother of all projects....redesigning our very outdated website. We are always amazed at how quickly and efficiently they work despite us coming back with little nit-picky changes and requests. We often wonder if we're their only client because they are so quick to respond....but that is exactly how they want you to feel - as if you are their only/most important client. They are always willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done right by taking very careful consideration of their clients' needs, wants, and desires, and end up producing work that is nothing short of brilliant.
